Review: Tim Hortons Mocha Iced Capp
It's summer. Well, it is in my head. And that means time for Tim Hortons Iced Capps while driving to the campsite or on a road trip or whatever. Of course, summer (or almost summer) means that the Tim Hortons media machine is in full swing, trying to convince us that its frozen icey vaguely-coffee based beverages are the ones to get. Their latest ad proclaims the new Mocha iced capp to be "awesome" (repeatedly). So, I took up the challenge, laid down my $2.88 (the mocha option costs an extra $0.25) and ran it through the gauntlet.
As the Tim Hortons attendant handed me my mocha iced capp, it was eminently clear to me that this was no regular iced capp. In fact, my mind went right to chocolate milk. It looked, at least from my perspective, that the creamy based had been simply replaced with chocolate milk, a previously free customization. Of course, I didn't watch her make it, so I was left simply to guess.
However, upon tasting it, I realized that this was a different beast altogether. While the original iced capp vaguely tastes of maple syrup, this one was much sweeter. I was expecting a bit of a coffee flavour, but couldn't find it anywhere, except in the aftertaste, which isn't where I'd normally expect a nice mocha flavour.
The chocolatey flavour one would expect is here, in full force, which leads me to believe this may simply be a chocolate syrup added in addition to the normal cream base. It wasn't an unpleasant experience, but it wasn't what I was expecting. I was hoping for a rich, coffee taste with hints of chocolate, and all I got was a bordering-on-sickly sweet chocolate syrup taste.
The ultimate question, of course, is: "Is it worth my quarter plus tax?"
In this humble reviewer's opinion? No. No it isn't.
Disclosure: This iced capp was purchased at the drive through of my local Tim Hortons with change found at the bottom of my cup holders.
