Site News: Commenting Requirements Loosened

So, now that I finally have a better grip on how this whole system works, and that I'm satisfied that the Captcha utility works well at keeping spambots out, I've removed the requirement for comments to be approved by yours truly before they can be posted. What does this mean? Basically, that your comment will be posted as soon as you hit submit.

I've been toying with the idea of requiring registration (so that people can post under a consisten alias, have userpics, etc.) but I think that might be a barrier of entry for a lot of people. So for the time being, anonymous commenting without the need to have your comment moderated. That doesn't mean I won't review for appropriateness.

I'll be putting together a clearly defined commenting policy, outlining specifically what is permissible and what is not, but don't say anything here you wouldn't say to a coworker or a boss. I know that's not a very good temporary guideline, but I won't tolerate any form of discrimination, threats or trolling. Keep swearing to a minimum (use your vocabulary!). And we'll all get alone fine.

So, would you sign up for a free account if it meant you could comment under one username, with a userpic of your choice, and would only have to use the captcha during the log-in process?

OpenID

Andrew,

Thanks for the great suggestion. I've just implemented a log-in module that allows for openIDs. When you're ready to be a regular SincerelyMAB.com commenter, just use your OpenID to open an account, follow the rest of the admin procedure (ie: fill in the Captcha) and then take it from there. Let me know if you have any difficulties at mab at sincerelymab dot. com

Thanks!
